Ever since motor car was invented people were terribly obsessed with its speed. Not only qualified engineers but the very common people tried to speed up the vehicle.  And with this obsession the fast car racing became one of the most popular sports of US and was restricted to it for many years.

The birth of drag racing was in the dry lake beds in the California deserts. At the beginning of the 1930 the engines got better with the brave drivers and the car speed started to range up to 100 mph.

Recognition developed gradually although drag racing still continued to be mainly a secretive amusement. Races often held on abandoned military runways with the first organized happening dating back to 1949 at the Goleta Air Base in California.

Back in those times there was no technical design behind those sports and car structure and engineering. Everything was simple and drivers were not technically sound like recent days. They drove without any safety measures and regulated track conditions. The viewers were also dealt with no admiration- they had to stand and see the race, there were no seating arrangements made for them that was not possible for anyone as the tracks were not grounds they were abandoned runways.

Gradually the drag racing began to emerge as one organized sport. Association were started to pop their head up. In 1951 NHRA was founded. And with time the game started to enjoy great fame. The year 1960s saw stuffs get more technical. More attention was given to the design of the cars with a change in shape race starter, the flagman who stood between the two racing cars, was replaced with an electroform wide and short to long and thin, and an rising number of organizations sprung up counting the World Series of Drag Racing.

Sponsors came to endorse the event and gradually it became a expensive game of US. American public loved this sport from the beginning. And when in 2010 drag racing association NHRA celebrated its 50th anniversary it was obvious. Speed as always induced people so the result could not have gone otherwise.
